FAS STAR CHALSEE

Chalsee, age 6, with her brother, JD

Hi, My name is Chalsee Ann Karnopp and I came to live in the big North Woods of Wisconsin when I was 5 months old. My social workers says my adoption was the fastest she has ever done in her 25 years of placing children. My parents filed paperwork to adopt the day I was born Dec. 17, 1992 but knew nothing of me. After seeing me at the hospital my social worker said that she knew I belonged to them but she couldn't tell them about me. They finished their home study while the doctors were testing me and I was in Foster care. The social worker was hoping that Mom and Dad would not find a child in the adopt book because she really wanted me to go to them but still could not say anything. My social worker did not work on Fridays but on that day in May she called my Mom and Dad and said Hey, can you come to my office and meet your daughter. Mom said she had to pinch herself because she couldn't believe it. That day was the hardest ever Dad says to give me back to the foster family. The social workers kept saying don't give us an answer yet meet us at the hospital tomorrow morning to speak to the doctors involved in this case. All the way home Mom and Dad said they knew the answer and told the social workers in the parking lot of the hospital before the meeting that no matter what the doctors said they wanted me. The doctors told Mom and Dad we have no idea what she has - genetic testing is fine, she is failure to thrive, hypotonia, hypertonia, she arches when fed, she has an arachnoid cyst on the brain stem but we don't know why. The doctor said when are these people going to take her home and the social worker looked at me and said can you be ready in 7 days. 7 days later on May 24th Chalsee Ann came home to Luxemburg, WI. After searching through medical reports, family history and papers I found what I needed. The one comment that she was afraid of what she had drank and taken. Now I needed the doctor that would help us. We found that one doctor and Chalsee now had a reason for what was happening to her. This was 6 years ago and today she has come further than any of those doctors ever imagined. We just saw one of them the other day and he said I can't believe it I never dreamed this child would walk, talk or do anything -- you two are miracle workers. No its not us, its CHALSEE ANN NOTHING WILL KEEP HER DOWN AND HER MOMMY AND DADDY WON'T LET ANYONE TELL HER SHE CAN'T DO SOMETHING. Reach for the stars Chalsee because they are yours.
