She enjoys her job in food service

Moretz

Work has been a challenge and a blessing for Sarah Moretz, 20 who has FAS. She found work on DMAFB, where she is shown setting up a salad bar.

Moretz said she enjoys her job. Her favorite part is setting up the salad bar. "I think I'll stay there until I retire," she said.
For a couple of months, her mother pulled her from the job, upset at her attitude and poor performance.
"She wasn't behaving appropriately at work," Isambert said. "I got so frustrated with it. She wasn't staying on task. She wasn't speaking respectfully to supervisors. She was mouthing off. I just came to the end of my rope. I told her a job is a privilege. If I acted like that on the job, I wouldn't last long. So she stayed home for a couple of months. It was very boring."
Since returning, Moretz's performance has improved, said Isambert, a registered nurse at a group home for medically fragile children.
Moretz is employed through the Tempe Center for Habilitation, which provides training and supervision on the job.
Moretz brings home about $176 every two weeks. Her mom puts the money in the bank for her. "If I see something I like at the store, I buy it," Moretz said. She's very proud of the green rug on the floor of her tidy bedroom, and the comforter sprinkled with sunflowers that graces her bed. She bought both with her savings.
